“Akiyama Maiko. That is your name?” A cheery male questioned, staring down at the eight year old.

You gazed up at the tall man who you recognised to be a marine and nodded with a bright smile. He ruffled your hair making you giggle.

“The people of this island don’t seem to like you.” He mentioned.

You grew confused by his words and tilted your head. What was he talking about? Everyone was kind to her.

“They may seem kind to you but in reality they are scared that you might hurt them with your power. They don’t want to get on your bad side.” Your eyes widened at his words.

“R-Really?” You questioned, tearing up slightly.

“Don’t cry. I know a place where you will feel right at home.” He told.

You wiped your eyes and gazed back at him in excitement.

“Where? Can we go now!” You asked but paused as your remembered your family.

“What about grandpa...I can’t leave him alone. He’s too old.” You mentioned, blinking up at the man.

“Don’t worry, he’ll be fine. I’ll tell your grandpa after I train you. You need to be stronger to be able to go.” He told.

You beamed and nodded before thanking the vice admiral.

“You’re the best, old man Bors...Borsa...” You struggled with saying his name.

“Borsalino but you can call me Kizaru.” Kizaru mentioned with a smile.

You nodded once more before bidding goodbye to the strong man and running back home.

“I’m back grandpa!” You called.

“Maiko-chan. Where have you been? It’s late!” He asked as he slowly walked out from the kitchen.

“I...” You trailed off.

Kizaru was going to tell your grandpa about you going with him to another place. It would be best if you kept it a secret.

“I was playing with my friends. Sorry grandpa!” You lied.

Your grandpa sent you an intense look while placing a hand on the hilt of his sword making you sweat but he soon shrugged and walked back in the kitchen. You sighed in relief and quickly went up to your room where it was messy. You jumped on your bed and stared up at the roof, not stopping the big smile from appearing on your face.

“I can’t wait!” You said out loud.

Three months drifted by and Kizaru trained you really hard. You finally was able to control your power and from time to time, fought well against Kizaru.

“I hope grandpa likes the sweet bread I bought him.” You muttered with a smile.

You opened the front door quietly and walked in, not wanting to make a sound since you wanted to surprise your grandpa but you froze as you heard his voice in a angry tone.

“You are not taking her away, you bastard!” Grandpa barked.

“It’s too late. She already has put her trust in me and soon she will become a great weapon for the marines.” Kizaru? Was that him?

You shook your head and took a step back, not believing what you were hearing.

“No...” You whispered, letting the bag fall to the ground.

The two men who were in the other room, snapped their heads to the direction of the front door. Kizaru faked a shocked expression and spoke.

“Oh! It seems we’ve been heard. This is bad.” His words dripped in sarcasm.

You turned on your heel and slammed the door open before using your power to zoom out and past the people who had grown surprised. You needed to get away otherwise Kizaru will capture you.

“Do you really think you are faster than me?”

You turned your head and your eyes widened as you saw Kizaru appear next to you. A scream escaped your lips as he kicked you causing you to tumble to the ground. Tears escaped your eyes and you found it difficult to breathe as your body began to grow cold. You were dizzy from the pain and wasn’t able to move a muscle. Kizaru picked you up easily and threw you over his shoulder like a sack of patatos.

“Isn’t this great, Maiko-chan? You are finally going...To The Marineford.” His voice was cheery at first but then it turned scary as he muttered the last words.

Your tear filled eyes widened and you struggled to escape from his death grip.

“I hate you! Let me go! HELP!” You screamed.

“Maiko-chan!”

Your crimson eyes caught someone and you cried out towards them.

“Grandpa!” You yelled out.

Kizaru sighed dramatically and dropped you to the ground. You winced in pain but looked across to see your grandpa with his sword unsheathed. You couldn’t believe your eyes. You were finally going to see him fight. He would always tell you stories that occurred in his past making your desire to watch him fight increase. Kizaru raised his brows and spoke.

“Oh! Your using your sword. I’m so scared!” You could tell his words had no real fright in them.

“It’s been a while but if it means to fight against the monster who killed my children then I will not hesitate.” The older samurai said.

You heart stopped at his words. This...This was the man that took your parents away from you...from this world. Your heart then began to pound fast and you gripped your hair as tears slipped from your eyes.

“Those two? Of course I killed them because....They were filthy pirates.” Kizaru responded simply.

“That was their dream. To become pirates. I was completely against it, wanting them to become a worthy samurai but I couldn’t stop them from their dreams. For them, I shall kill you myself!” Grandpa yelled before sprinting towards Kizaru who was still calm.

You gasped when you saw your grandpa disappear and appeared in front of Kizaru, bring down his sword at the same time. You expression brightened, knowing that Kizaru was about to get hurt but it faltered when you observed what really happened. Kizaru simply caught the sword in his hand. He pointed two of his fingers towards Grandpa who groaned and closed his eyes as a bright light nearly blinded them. As he was distracted, Kizaru released the sword from his left hand and pointed his index finger towards the older male. A bright light formed on his finger and you watched in horror when the beam he created pierced into Grandpa’s chest where his heart was located.

“Grandpa!” You screamed, frozen in your place.

He gazed at you with glazed eyes and he slowly removed the other sword from his waist.

“Maiko...Run away...from this...monster.” He used the last of the his energy to throw the sword towards you.

You grabbed the sword and observed it.

“I wanted to give it to in the....future but it seems...now has become the time.” He fell against the ground.

“Grandpa...” You whimpered, wanting to go near him but someone placed their foot in front of you.

“You’re not going anywhere.” Kizaru’s voice reached your ear and fear took over your body.

“Maiko....Promise me...You will never back down from anyone...that is considered an enemy. Pirate or Marine.” He croaked and your breath hitched as his eyes slowly closed.

You knew at that moment then that your grandfather had died and you couldn’t let his effort go to waste.

You scrambled onto your feet and quickly dodged Kizaru’s hand before zooming off. He sighed, feeling lazy and walked casually towards where you were heading.

You stopped yourself, nearly stumbling and falling into the sea in front of you. That was close...You sighed in relief but instantly froze after when you heard a familiar voice.

“Maiko-chan..It hurts that you are betraying me after I helped you.”

You spun around and glared towards Kizaru, taking a step back at the same time. Kizaru moved towards you making you back away but you had no choice but to stop as you felt a bit of water hit against your shoe.

“There’s nowhere to run now.” He chuckled as he saw you tremble.

“Sir!” A voice shouted.

Kizaru whipped his head back and he saw a few marines running towards him. As he was distracted, you glanced around. You couldn’t run to your left or to your right, he would see you. You looked back and gulped as you saw the sea. Your mind clicked as an idea was popped up in your mind. You gripped onto your sword and glanced at Kizaru who was ordering the marines to capture some pirates that arrived on the other side of the island. This was it, your opportunity to get away.

The high ranked marine turned back to you but he actually showed a real surprised look as he saw you travel across the sea with your speed. You couldn’t believe it actually worked! Your purple hair fluttered back and your eyes focused on what was ahead of you. You knew that you would now be able to get away from Kizaru but you didn’t know how long you were going to last being able to run on the sea.

“Oh no...This has all gone to a waste now...” Kizaru shrugged his shoulders and turned around before walking in the opposite direction.

He could easily capture you on land but on sea...he didn’t want to risk it.

“In the future...I’ll have to get rid of the weapon I created myself...” His expression turned dark and he arrived by a scene of people who surrounded the old samurai’s dead body.

He gazed down at it heartlessly before simply ordering a few marines to bury the body.

You had been running constantly for the last fifteen minutes and you were growing weaker and weaker. Damn it...The sea water was slowly making your body grow tired. A ship caught your eyes from a far and you quickly changed your direction. You didn’t care who it was, I’m sure they would let you rest on their ship.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Captain! There’s something coming towards the ship.” A pirate shouted, looking away from the telescope.

The captain of the ship flickered his eyes up at the pirate and grinned.

“Let’s see what it is!” He exclaimed, putting down his drink of beer and getting up.

He walked up to the rail and squinted his eyes but they soon widened as he realised what it was. He saw some of the members of his crew with their weapons out.

“Put them away. It’s okay.” He told them.

They hesitated but quickly listened when they saw the stubborn look he sent them.

“What is it?” His first mate stood next to him.

“You mean who.” The captain corrected.

The first mate looked forward, now being able to see who it was.

“A girl...and she’s running on the sea.” The item in his mouth fell out as his jaw dropped in shock.

The girl, now just a few metres away from the boat, bent her knees and shot up. Her eyes locked with the captains and he saw the desperate look she sent him.

“Help...” She whispered, her eyes closed and she finally let her body rest.

The first mate quickly went in front of the captain and caught her falling body.

“Captain.” He called.

“Let her rest. She needs it.” He ordered.

She was soon taken away, leaving the captain on his own and in a state of slight shock. He couldn’t believe this just occurred. It’s not everyday you see a devil fruit user running on water. Her abilty must be speed. He sighed and quickly went back to his seat, gulping down the rest of the drink.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A groan escaped your lips and you slowly sat rub, rubbing your eyes.

“You’re awake!” A cheery voice exclaimed.

You stiffened and you looked to your right to see a older male. He had bright red hair and three scars running across his left eye. You remembered him from before and quickly bowed your head.

“T-Thank you.”

He ruffled your head and laughed.

“No need to be polite kid! The names Shanks, what’s yours?” He introduced and asked.

You opened your mouth to answer but you paused. If he found out your name, it could end up being spread around and eventually Kizaru will figure out where you are. No...You can’t let him find you until you can actually face him again with your power. You needed a new name to present a new start since you are no longer on the island you grew up in. Your lips parted and you gazed at the pirate with a confident smile.

“My name is ___.”

Zen island. That’s where the Red Hair Pirates dropped you off. You couldn’t thank Shanks enough for this. You were sad that they had to leave immediately but he promised he would visit if he could.
You hadn’t seen him since which made you sad but you knew he must have been busy. Now at thirteen, you had turned out to be very mature. You had a grown a foot at least, being very tall compared to most girls your age. You were at peace with the island and you hadn’t heard from Kizaru since which was a relief because you knew you were still not strong enough to fight against him.
“___! Pirates have arrived.” You turned your head and saw your friend Han running towards you.
Since you were the only devil fruit user of the island, you were in charge of taking care of anyone who visited the island. Pirates were the only ones who visited and most of them were creating chaos. You had not seen a single marine ship visit the island which was
