Smoker X Reader [1/3] - Rescue

“Whoa!” You slipped and landed on your back with a thud.

Your fellow members of the G-5 marine group laughed at your misfortune making you blush in embarrassment. That was already the hundredth time you did that but it was always funny to them.

“Get back to work!” A female voice scolded.

You looked up to see Captain Tashigi who sighed at you. She helped you up and you straightened your clothes.

“H-Hello captain.” You saluted with a shy smile.

“___, how many times have I already told you be careful around wet floors?” Your shoulders slumped at this and you muttered an apology.

You couldn’t help it. You were clumsy, shy and a stuttering mess. Tashigi adjusted her glasses and guided you around the ship to prevent you from slipping again. When it was safe, she left your side to keep an eye on the other marines.

“I wish I wasn’t so bad at everything…” You mumbled to yourself.

“Stop bringing yourself down.” You squeaked at the voice and turned around to see Smoker.

“V-Vice admiral!” You stuttered with a blush on your face.

His crimson eyes met yours and he placed a hand on your head. You blinked up at him and listened as he spoke.

“You wouldn’t have been accepted as a marine if you weren’t strong. Stop addressing me formally. Just call me by my name.” His words lightened your heart and you averted your attention to the ground.

“Thank you Smoker…” You whispered but it reached his ears.

He released a bit of smoke from his mouth before patting your head gently. You watched as he walked past you and towards Tashigi who was at the front of the ship. You placed a hand on your beating heart and couldn’t stop the smile from appearing on your face. Since you had finished your daily duties, you were allowed to return to your room. You entered it and sat by your desk. You picked up a picture of you and Tashigi smiling with Smoker in the background. He seemed to be gazing at you but you shook your head at that ridiculous thought.

‘It must be a coincidence…’ You nodded slightly at the thought before grabbing your book you had been reading for the last week.

You went to your bed, laying down on it and began to read the book. As you read, you couldn’t help but yawn. You woke up really early this morning due to your duties. You fought the urge to sleep and forced yourself to read but your eyes began to close.

“I’ll just have a little nap…”

The book you held dropped and smacked your face since you were holding it above but you had already fallen asleep.

The ship rocked violently causing you fall off your bed. You sat up immediately and looked around with wide eyes.

“What’s happening?” You scrambled onto your feet and heard a lot of noise coming out your room.

You opened the door and stepped out but a few marines saw you.

“___-chan! Some pirates have invaded the ship. Vice admiral Smoker ordered us to tell you to stay in your room.” One of them told.

“B-But, I have to help,” You protested, your eyebrows knitting together.

You were driven back into your room and the door was slammed in your face. You gaped in disbelief and couldn’t help but feel hurt. Those words Smoker told you earlier…Maybe he was just trying to cheer you up. His words might have actually been lies. You trembled at the thought and tears stung your eyes. You really are useless.

An image of Smoker staring down at you with a small smile flashed in your mind and you shot your head up. Your eyes showed determination and you stormed up to the door. Smoke would never lie to you. He has always been by your side and helped you grow stronger. You slammed the door open and marched towards the deck but your steps soon slowed down as you witnessed the scene in front of you. All your friends and fellow marines were knocked out on the ground. Tashigi was struggling to get up and your eyes widened completely when you saw Smoker with sea stone handcuffs on. How the hell did this happen? This couldn’t be real…Smoker was actually defeated.

“Smoker!” You called in panic and ran towards him.

Smoker’s head shot up and he cursed under his breath.

“Stay back, ___!” He exclaimed to you but you ignored his words.

You grabbed a random sword that one of your friends had used and attacked the pirate but he simply evaded your move and kicked you down. Your back hit the deck floor and you whimpered in pain.

“You should have listened. It’s obvious that you are just weak.” His words hit you and you felt anger build up inside you.

Wanting to have a bit of fun, the pirate captain called a few of his mates and ordered them to hold Smoker. He then turned to you and smirked before swinging his foot. It made contact to your stomach and you tumbled back, coughing up in the process. He then placed his black boot on your head and added pressure.

“You bastard! You already have me so leave her alone!” Smoker was pissed and wanted to kill the pirate captain.

You clutched your stomach and felt tears escape your closed eyes. The captain continued to hurt you, ignoring Smoker’s protests and your body soon grew numb.

‘Why can’t I do anything? Why doesn’t my body respond?!’ Questions lingered your mind and you gritted your teeth.

“_____!!!!” Smoker’s voice made your eyes snap open and power suddenly built up inside of you.

You couldn’t give up. You had to prove that you are worthy of being a marine! You pressed your hand against the wooden floor and forced yourself to get up. The captain stumbled back and stared at you in shock.

“How the hell did you…” He trailed off as you raised your head.

Your eyes pierced into the captains and he trembled under your fierce gaze. Black armor formed around your right fist and your raised it. You let out a cry of determination before smashing it into the captain’s face. Blood escaped his lips and he flew back, almost falling off the ship. Smoker stared at you with wide eyes and you were just as surprised. You couldn’t believe it…You used Armament Haki.

“Let’s get out of here!”

The pirates that were called earlier quickly picked up there captain and dragged Smoker away onto their ship.

“Hey!” You called, pissed off that they were trying to escape.

You almost touched Smoker’s handcuffs but your clumsiness just had to kick in at that moment. You tripped over your own feet and your head ended up smacking against the ground hard. Dizziness took over your mind and you tried to fight back the darkness but it soon engulfed you and made you drift off to sleep.

Your eyes slowly opened and you groaned as your head throbbed in pain. A gasp escaped your lips as you remembered the scene that occurred a while ago and you sat up from your place. You grasped your head, feeling dizzy by the sudden movement but that didn’t stop you from crawling towards Tashigi who was still knocked out. Tears stung the corner of your eyes and you let out a small whimper as you shook your closest friend, hoping she would wake up.
“Tashigi…” You called, a tear rolling down your cheek.
A groan escaped the captain’s lips and she slowly opened her eyes. You grew relieved and as she slowly sat up, you couldn’t help but hug her.
“I’m glad you’re okay.” Your voice was barely above a whisper and you felt Tashigi relax before returning the hug.
“I’m fine. I need to know if Smoker-san is fine. Where is he?” Guilt hit you hard and your body began to tremble.
